How a Barstool Conversation Turned Into a Weekend Getaway

It’s funny how often a single conversation can spark a love affair with a city.
Friday night, I was sitting at a downtown hotel bar, waiting on a friend. On my right was a gentleman visiting for his daughter; on my left, a couple passing through town who’d decided to stay for the night. In true Macon fashion, conversation flowed easily. We talked about everything happening that weekend — from live music and downtown eats to hidden gems tucked behind historic storefronts.
I shared a few of my favorite stops and mentioned Macon Me Wander, a way to experience Macon’s character through curated itineraries that mix storytelling, history, and community connection. The couple leaned in, curious. By the end of our chat, they’d decided to plan a full weekend trip back to Macon — just to explore more of what they’d discovered that night.
That’s what I love most about this city. Macon has a way of wrapping people up in its charm — the old bricks, the pine trees, the laughter echoing from Cherry Street patios. Sometimes, all it takes is a friendly conversation to make someone see it.
For hosts, innkeepers, and boutique hotel owners, that spark can begin right in your lobby or breakfast nook. Guests crave authentic recommendations — not just where to eat, but how to feel Macon. That’s where Macon Me Wander comes in. Our curated experiences give your guests a ready-made way to explore the city like locals — whether that’s a true-crime brunch crawl, a romantic itinerary, or an art-infused downtown stroll.
Because when your guests fall in love with Macon, they come back — and they tell others to do the same.
